Plutarque a dit de lui, dans sa "Vie de Sertorius" :
il était capable de beaucoup d'endurance et avec peu de sommeil. Il se contentait d'une alimentation médiocre, et en faible quantité. Il ne ressentait aucune peur face au danger. Il se comportait mieux envers les femmes que Philippe de Macédoine, il était plus fidèle à ses amis qu'Antigone, et plus miséricordieux envers ses ennemis qu'Hannibal. En habilité, il n'était inférieur à aucun d'eux.

Quintus Sertorius est né vers 122 avant J.-C. à Nursie, en pays sabin. Il perdit un oeil lors des guerres Sociales (90 - 88 avant J.-C.), entre la République Romaine et ses alliés italiens. Il fut assassiné lors d'un banquet en 72 avant J.-C., sans aucun doute à l'instigation des Romains.

Contrairement à ce que l'on pourrait penser, Sertorius n'était pas le champion de la cause espagnole : il s'est toujours considéré comme au service de Rome.

In his "Life of Sertorius", Plutarch said of him :
He was easily able to endure hard work and long journeys with little sleep. He was content with mediocre food, and not much of it either. It was not in his nature to feel fear when faced with danger. He behaved better towards women than Philip of Macedon, he was more faithful to his friends than Antigonus, and was more merciful towards his enemies than Hannibal. He was inferior to none of these in ability.

Quintus Sertorius was born around 122 BC in Nursia, in Sabine country. He lost an eye during the Social Wars (90 - 88 BC), between the Roman Republic and its Italian allies. He was assassinated during a banquet in 72 BC, no doubt at the instigation of Rome.

Contrary to what one might assume, Sertorius was not the champion of the Spanish cause : he has always considered himself in the service of Rome.
